About the Author

Caroline was born Karolina Kurzova on April 2, 1966 in the town of Pisek in a country that at the time was known as Czechoslovakia. In 1969 she followed her parents to Canada and settled at the tender age of three years in Hamilton Ontario. Even at an early age she knew she wanted to be a writer and most notably a poet. Her paternal grandfather was Josef Kurz, a Czech poet and writer whose work was sponsored by the founder of Bata Shoes. His book “Songs of the Sun” was published in 1936 followed by a second volume of poetry “Through Darkness to Light”. Unfortunately, his work was banned by the ruling Communist Regime and he died just weeks before the Velvet Revolution, never knowing the artistic freedom owed to all writers, poets, artists and film makers.

Caroline’s work has appeared in numerous commercial and literary journals throughout the USA, Canada and the UK. She has written six novels and excerpts from several of them have been published in various literary journals. “Strange Fruit” a short story excerpt from her novel “The Myth of the Immortal Child” first published in Issue 51 of the Prairie Journal was nominated for a Journey Prize in 2008. A poem “Piano Lesson” first published in “Puffin Circus” was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in 2010. Another short story entitled “A Necessary Sadness” first published in “Forge Journal” in 2011 has also been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. This year her novella “The Watchmaker” was published by Vagabodage Press and a copy can be purchased through Amazon or the publisher’s website.
